Phil Collins

Chief Executive of Saltmine Trust

Biography:

Philip Collins has worked extensively in the Third Sector over many years. Starting out as a Youth Worker specialising in detached youth work found Phil spending many hours on the streets working with detached young people as he started to understand the needs and the isolation that they face. Being seconded to Canada, Phil then set up a Theatre Company which specifically worked in Canadian High Schools communicating positive messages of hope and dealing with subjects such as the dangers of drug abuse, drinking and self-worth. Returning from Canada to the UK, Phil took up a post as a Senior Manager in a national youth charity to co-ordinate all their volunteers. Phil is also the Chairman of a Charity committed to working in Africa and over the last 10 years has seen the development of a large primary school in Mwanza. He has also been involved in the pioneering the Stourbridge Cyber Bus – a project that works with young people on the streets to reduce anti-social behaviour. Phil also helped to facilitate the beginning of the Black Country Food Bank, which literally feeds hundreds of people per week in the Black Country region. Phil is a sought after speaker and he advises charities and churches with community outreach issues. Being appointed as the Chief Executive of Saltmine Trust in November 2006, he is committed to seeing creativity being used to communicate positive messages throughout Society.
