Saltmine is committed to working in the community with partnerships with local groups, schools, charities and churches. Saltmine holds arts festivals, workshops, outreach events which address issues within Society.
Themes that have been explored range from drug abuse – taking the story of Leah Betts and bringing it to the stage, stress in the home, Internet safety, to a production of Robin Hood for the pantomime season. Thousands have seen the production of “The Cross & The Switchblade,” which has a profound effect on adults and youth alike. A message from the 50’s that is more relevant to the 21st Century, when exploring the dangers of knife crime in our cities.
Saltmine has seen many lives changed through their XL programme, taking a group of young people who are on the verge of exclusion, working with them using creative arts, dance, drama, helping them to tell their story and then performing that to the whole school with staggering effects.
“Living It” – a series of meetings that explore the pressures of living in the 21st Century, pressures of life, stress and anxiety, the power of consumerism to rob us of joy towards life and what does it mean for the true pursuit of happiness.
