PRESS RELEASE

The stage is set at Saltmine Trust for a new phase of leadership

Saltmine’s CEO, Phil Collins, has accepted the position of campus pastor at Kelowna church in British Columbia, Canada, and will be moving with his family in June.

Phil has seen Saltmine continue to thrive under his leadership, which he inherited nearly four years ago  from founder Dave Pope. The whole Saltmine team would like to thank Phil again for his imagination, heart for mission and focus in leadership, and are praying for him and the family as they embark on their next challenge.

As Saltmine continues to grow and develop, Phil’s departure has provided a timely opportunity for the trust to think in new ways about its leadership structure, and how it might continue to “Creatively Communicate Christ” into the future.

Therefore, the board of trustees are delighted to announce two exciting new leadership appointments – David Robinson as Chief Artistic Director and Rachael Orrell as Executive Chair of the Trust.

David Robinson, who has been at the core of Saltmine’s writing and performing for 20 years will become the organisation’s first ever Chief Artistic Director. This role, in keeping with many arts organisations, will see David take responsibility for the day to day operation of Saltmine, utilising his brilliant creative mind to continue the strategic development of the theatre companies, projects, partnerships and productions. David says: ‘I am very much looking forward to leading the organisation with Rachael; someone I know will bring energy and integrity to the Trust.’

The newly created role of Executive Chair will be filled by Rachael Orrell. Rachael has recently stepped aside from leadership on the board of Spring Harvest, and is excited to be leading Saltmine into the future. “I am delighted to take up this new post, building upon the valuable work Phil has invested in over the years. It is an exciting time for Saltmine as we seek to contribute to the story God is writing in the world around us.

There are currently up to four Saltmine theatre companies working in schools, touring in partnership with organisations and authors, and performing in festivals and churches and missions  across the UK and beyond. Recently they have also partnered with Regents College to introduce an accredited degree in performing arts and theology.

As Phil Collins expressed, “God has truly placed His hand on this organisation, and its amazing team. The call to ‘creatively communicate Christ’ continues to grow in strength. Rachael and David will be an exceptional team in the next phase of Saltmine’s development and I will be continuing to pray for the organisation going forward.”

History

Saltmine was founded in 1980, and was the brainchild of Dave Pope, who wanted to create an organisation that would be a vehicle for mission, and yet at the same time, provide a training ground for 'up and coming' talent and leadership. The formative years found Saltmine involved in local church initiatives here in the UK, and providing teams to assist in reaching out to the local community. At the same time, it developed links with Eastern Europe, supporting the development of the emerging church in Bulgaria. It also developed partnerships with other organisations involved in similar ministry.
