Saltmine was founded in 1980, and was the brainchild of Dave Pope, who wanted to create an organisation that would be a vehicle for mission, and yet at the same time, provide a training ground for 'up and coming' talent and leadership. The formative years found Saltmine involved in local church initiatives here in the UK, and providing teams to assist in reaching out to the local community. At the same time, it developed links with Eastern Europe, supporting the development of the emerging church in Bulgaria. It also developed partnerships with other organisations involved in similar ministry.
Saltmine also focused on the 'Arts', encouraging the use of music and drama in its ministry, and its musicians and drama team soon became recognised as one of the UK's leading exponents in this field. Saltmine personnel featured in many major events and many International conferences, and regularly contributed to the programme of Spring Harvest. It also established holiday events in its own right, and Summersalt has subsequently become a feature in the summer calendar. Saltmine birthed 'Trailblazers' - an initiative designed to engage Christians in challenge and adventure, yet simultaneously, creating much needed resources for organisations involved in charitable work already having raised over £1 million. Dave Pope retired from day to day leadership in December 2006, welcoming a new CEO ...Phil Collins. Saltmine continues to communicate the Christian ethos, and is internationally respected for its commitment to excellence and integrity. |
